We care for quality

We control 100% of the production process, from the selection of the seed to your plate, to guarantee you the freshest products.

We care for our crops

We rotate our crops at different altitudes in the Spanish territory, seeking optimal climatology and sustainable agriculture practices.

We care for the climate

We work to achieve 0 emissions using renewable energy and eco-friendly technology. We reduce the emission of more than 758 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere, equivalent to travelling around the world twice by plane (12,400 km).

Power consumption

Electricity:

During the 2019/2020 campaign, the electricity consumption registered only in the Range I and IV production facilities, compared to the sales figures, was a total of 14,158 MWh. The overall consumption of all facilities was 20,623 MWh. These data reflect an increase of 2% in relation to electricity consumption in the 2018/2019 campaign with a total of 20,307 MWh.

Fuel:

During the 2019/2020 campaign, the consumption of fossil fuels only in the Range I and IV fixed production facilities was 163,237 l. The overall consumption of all facilities was 200,745, a reduction of 15% in relation to the fossil fuel consumption in the 2018/2019 campaign, with a total of 237,275 l.

We care for water

We use smart systems to optimize and reduce water consumption by up to 40%.

Water cycle:

Water is essential for our entire value chain. We are consequently committed to ensuring the efficient use and conservation of this precious natural resource for the use of our Range I and IV operations, without forgetting the benefit for communities and the planet.

Water consumption:

At Primaflor we carry out a large part of our activities in areas with high water stress, implementing strict water consumption control and using the best techniques available for optimizing water resources, as well as water-waste reduction solutions.

100% of the drinking water consumed at Range I and IV facilities, both in the area of Pulpí and Cuevas de Almanzora, as well as in Villarejo de Órbigo (León), comes from the general water supply network.

A brief example of our good sustainable water consumption reduction practices can be seen below:

Water storage systems at the different facilities, to increase the optimum use of water from the general water supply network and its treatment.

Risk assessments and continuous analytical controls are carried out to ensure water quality throughout the entire production process.

Investments in all salad machinery (Range IV) that minimize water consumption for washing ready-to-eat products.

We care for the circular economy

In our composting plant we generate fertilizer for our farmland.

Primaflor’s waste management strategy prioritizes waste prevention and reduction and promotes its recycling and recovery as far as possible, compared to landfills or incineration.

At the end of the 2019/2020 campaign, the volume of waste managed by the approved managers belonging to our network of companies authorized for waste removal amounted to 37.6 tons of hazardous waste and 1,012 tons of non-hazardous waste. In addition, 661.79 tons of non-hazardous waste have been declared at the company’s Ecoembes Green Point site.

Primaflor continues to reinforce its commitment to waste management treatments, endorsed by the construction of a Composting Point set up by the Junta de Andalucía, in order to add value to the surplus vegetables of our production process at the Range I and IV facilities, thus incorporating the concept of circular economy 100% into our value chain.

Sustainability of Primaflor packaging. The company’s packaging strategy is to use recyclable and recycled material throughout the whole product portfolio. An example of this has been the replacement of PET in our salad bowl containers by rPET, a sustainable, recycled and recyclable material, suitable for food contact, with which we reduce the use of conventional plastic and contribute to promoting the circular economy. At the end of the 2019/2020 campaign, we have incorporated 264,768 kg of rPET plastic in our packaging into the market, with the consequent environmental benefit this entails.

We care for biodiversity

We set up a natural reserve for the development and conservation of the spur-thighed tortoise (Testudo graeca), an endangered species.
